Grammostola Rosea (Gala)

Chilean Rose Hair Tarantula

RESCUE!

BECKY7

Becky7 was a rescue from a local pet store which called

me because they knew I might be able to help with a spider

in trouble.  They called me and told me that they had a large

injured tarantula and wanted to know if I would have a look.

When I got there she had a severe injury to her #8 leg which

was made worse by the fact that the break the exoskeleton

extended past the trochanter in into the coxa.  This meant

that simply removing the leg would not be enough to stop

the bleeding.  She was gushing hemolymph.  I suspect that

someone was holding her and freaked out a little and gave

her a little toss.

I took here home (they actually made me buy her...sheesh),

flipped her on her back and held her down with a pair of tongs.

I removed the leg and then made a "cast" of unscented tissue

paper and corn starch.  This is the cast...

The bleeding stopped.   She survived the night and the following

day and I think she just might be ok.  The only thing that I think

saved her is the fact that she is a big fat healthy female.

Hopefully she will be ok until she sheds and heals the wound.
